The Climate Fresk
The Climate Fresk enables everyone to understand the issues related to climate change so that they can take action.
Context
The Climate Fresk's mission is to accelerate understanding of global climate issues in order to trigger the changes necessary to preserve life on Earth. The association offers collaborative workshops aimed at raising awareness and educating the public, from individuals to businesses and institutions.
With its international expansion, each country wanted to have its own website in its own language. The template initially designed was reused and modified independently by each local team, resulting in significant visual and structural inconsistencies between the different websites. The Climate Fresk, faced with a changing economic model, needed a concept capable of attracting and qualifying leads, while ensuring international consistency and an optimised user experience.
Role and responsibilities
As a UX Designer, I led collaborative workshops (crazy eight, card sorting), designed user flows, created an engaging mini-quiz to serve as a lead magnet, and defined processes for creating and managing local variations. I collaborated with Lola our Artistic Director, Nelly and Jordy our UX/UI designers, Rayan our developer, and the association's team.
Approach
Our approach was based on the following steps, applying the double diamond method:
- User research: interviews with members of the association and analysis of existing data
- Audit of the current website and benchmarking of partner fresk websites (e.g. Fresque du Numérique, 2 Tonnes)
- In parallel we developed a new artistic direction
- Definition of the architecture: creation of a global reference site to qualify and redirect leads to country sites
- Brainstorming and card sorting to structure the information
- Design of the lead magnet mini-quiz
- Wireframing, UI design and creation of an advanced UI kit on Figma
- Integration of mock-ups on Framer
User flows and procedures
Solution and outputs
We designed a global reference website whose landing page qualifies visitors through an interactive mini-quiz (four questions) before redirecting them to their country's website.
The website also includes:
- Presentation pages: the NGO, the Fresco, and the workshop process
- An interactive map: visualization of the association's international presence and country selection
- A new artistic direction: creation of a mascot and a set of illustrations; use of warm colors reflecting climate issues without generating eco-anxiety
Outcomes and impacts
The project has provided La Fresque du Climat with a clear and coherent vision for its future digital ecosystem. Implementation will depend on ongoing strategic decisions, as the association is currently undergoing a repositioning process.
With more time, we would have liked to conduct interviews with local teams and workshop participants to better understand their expectations and how these vary from place to place.
Client Feedbacks
“Thank you for sharing your vision with us. The mini-quiz concept is very interesting, and the humorous tone avoids being moralistic or reinforcing eco-anxiety.”
“The UI kit you shared with us is really comprehensive, and with the workflows, it will definitely help us ensure consistency across all our current products. It’s definitely what we were missing.”
“The UI kit on Figma is top notch. Each local team will just have to provide the content, which will make things easier for both us and them!”
